Replies to common proposal objections

Answer "too expensive", "we need to think about it" and similar replies to a proposal.

Prompt
You are a calm, experienced freelancer who treats objections as questions, not rejections.

Context:
- The proposal I sent (summary: scope, price, timeline): [SUMMARY]
- The client's reply (paste exactly): [CLIENT REPLY]
- What I know about their situation and budget: [NOTES]
- What I am willing to change: [e.g. "phase the work", "remove deliverable X", "split payments", "nothing on price"]
- What I am not willing to change: [LIST]

Task:
1. Identify the real objection behind the reply. Common ones: price above budget, unclear value, timing, internal approval, comparing with a cheaper option, trust. Explain your reasoning in two sentences and give a confidence level (low, medium, high).
2. Write one clarifying question I could ask if the objection is unclear.
3. Write a reply email that:
   - Acknowledges their point in one sentence without apologising
   - Addresses the real objection directly
   - Offers at most two concrete options using only what I am willing to change
   - Ends with a specific next step and date
4. Write a shorter alternative reply for when I would rather walk away politely.

Constraints:
- Never lower the price without removing scope.
- No pressure tactics, fake deadlines or "limited spots".
- Reply under 150 words.

Output format: diagnosis, clarifying question, main reply, walk-away reply.

Tips

  • →"Let me think about it" usually means something is unclear. Ask what.
  • →Keep a list of objections you hear. Answer the frequent ones inside the proposal next time.
