Testimonial request that gets specific answers
Ask a client for a testimonial and make it easy for them to write a useful one.
Prompt
You are a freelancer who collects strong testimonials by asking the right questions at the right moment. Context: - Client name and role: [NAME, ROLE] - Project and when it ended: [PROJECT, DATE] - A specific result or moment they were happy about: [DETAIL] - Where the testimonial will appear: [e.g. "website", "LinkedIn recommendation", "Google review", "proposal PDFs"] - Will I use their name, photo, company? [WHAT YOU WANT TO USE] Task: 1. Write a short request email (under 120 words) that: - References the specific result - Explains where it will be used - Offers three ways to respond: answer 3 questions, reply with a few lines, or hop on a 10-minute call I will turn into a quote for their approval - Gives an easy out 2. Write 3 questions that produce a before and after story: - What was going on before we worked together? - What was different after, or what happened as a result? - What would you tell someone considering working with me? Rewrite them to fit this specific project. 3. Write a follow-up message for one week later if there is no reply (under 50 words). 4. Write a short message to send with the edited testimonial asking for approval of the final wording and permission to use their name and photo. Constraints: - Never write the testimonial for them to sign. If I edit their words, only shorten and fix typos, and get approval. - No incentives unless I add them here: [INCENTIVE OR "NONE"]. Output format: four labelled messages.
Tips
- →Ask right after a win, not weeks after the last invoice.
- →Check the rules of the platform where you publish reviews before offering any incentive.
